A companion piece to the Communities Directory, this video documentary features profiles of seven diverse communities, plus a fascinating history of shared living spanning 2500 years. Visions of Utopia is a great way to experience a sampling of community life "up close." You can see and hear community members tell their stories in their own words. Volume One was produced and edited by Geoph Kozeny, a veteran community networker, author, and former FIC board member. Though Geoph died before he could complete the editing of Volume Two, FIC is completing that work with his blessing. It will showcase an additional ten contemporary communities and is expected to be released by the end of 2008.
Volume One (now available) includes:
- Profiles of seven diverse communities.
- Exploration of the "glue" that holds communities together.
- Honest revelations about what is working and what is not.
- A brief history of 2500 years of shared living.
See fic.ic.org/video/communities.html for a list of the communities featured, and for updates about progress on the second volume.
